Shango Light Films is a media company creating compelling films, television, branded and digital content. The company is guided by its mission to make a global impact producing stories that illuminate moments in cultural shifts and personal experiences throughout the African diaspora and communities around the world.

Founded by two-time Emmy-nominated producer and director Rolake Bamgbose and co-owned by writer/director, professor and visual artist Justice A. Whitaker, their creative leadership combines their backgrounds in journalism, scripted and documentary television and film to create ambitious, cinematic storytelling that opens minds, revealing truths about the human experience we all share. Our work has earned numerous awards including two News and Documentary Emmy-nominations, and a Best Sports Documentary Critics Choice Award nomination.

The company’s name is derived from the name Sango - pronounced ‘shawn-go’ - and often spelled "Shango".  In Yoruba mythology, Shango is the most important Orisha; a Sky Father, God of Thunder & Lightning, and deeply committed to bringing truth to light. Shango’s spirit is a constant guide to the intention of the films we create.
